A lot of runners will probably agree with me that running can be spiritual, especially when it is just you and nature and no interruptions. Hell, the runner’s high can even be explained as a euphoric spiritual experience when it happens in the right moment.
For years I have joked that running is my church.
And my plan for this week’s blog post was to talk all about the parallels between running and religion. Most of them would be funny, like runners gather on Sunday morning just like most Christians. And most people involved with putting on a race are volunteers, just like most of the people that run a church are volunteers.
I thought I could be witty and funny and maybe even the post would go viral, but the more I wrote about it and read about religion made me realize…
Running really IS a religion.
It started getting pretty complicated, so I made a decision. Instead of writing a 4000 word blogpost I am turning it into the next episode of the MidPack Podcast which is scheduled to be released on Wednesday.
So, let me get back to the recording and get this episode together for you guys. Keep an eye out for the episode. You can find it on iTunes and Stitcher or download the episode from this site when it goes live.
If you like to listen to podcasts using another service, let me know what it is so I can get my show up over there. In the meantime, leave a comment or hit me up on Twitter and tell me in what way running is your religion.
